How Many Bartenders Do You Need for 100 Guests?

May 13, 2026May 13, 2026 StirrBartending Services, Event Planning Tips

One of the most common questions people ask while planning an event is how many bartenders they actually need for 100 guests. And honestly, the answer depends on more than just the guest count.

The type of event, drink menu, timeline, and even the layout of the venue can all affect how smoothly bar service runs.

For most events with around 100 guests, we typically recommend:

  • 1 bartender for beer and wine only service
  • 2 bartenders for full bar service with cocktails
  • Additional support staff if glassware, bussing, or large signature drink setups are involved

A lot of people assume one bartender can handle anything, but there’s a big difference between opening beers and making mixed drinks for a line of guests during cocktail hour.

How Many Bartenders for 100 Guests Serving Beer & Wine?

If your event is serving beer, wine, canned beverages, or a very limited menu, one experienced bartender is often enough for 100 guests, especially if the event has a more relaxed flow.

That said, there are situations where adding a second bartender still makes sense:

  • multiple bar locations
  • self-serve water or soda stations needing maintenance
  • large outdoor venues
  • weddings with a fast cocktail hour rush
  • glassware collection and cleanup

For weddings and corporate events in Seattle, Everett, and surrounding Western Washington areas, we often see the busiest time happen immediately after the ceremony or opening toast. Having enough staffing during that initial rush makes a huge difference in guest experience.

How Many Bartenders for 100 Guests Serving Cocktails?

If you’re serving cocktails, especially anything requiring shaking, muddling, blending, or multiple ingredients, two bartenders for 100 guests is usually the safer choice.

Even simple mixed drinks take time when:

  • guests order all at once
  • IDs need to be checked
  • garnishes need replenishing
  • ice runs low
  • guests ask questions about the menu

For events serving alcohol in Washington, it’s also important to follow responsible alcohol service guidelines and local regulations from the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board.

Nobody wants long lines at the bar during a wedding or private event. Bar service affects the overall flow of the event more than people realize.

Other Things That Affect How Many Bartenders for 100 Guests You Need

Guest count matters, but so does the type of event you’re hosting.

Things we consider when helping clients decide how many bartenders they need include:

  • length of event
  • number of bar stations
  • indoor vs outdoor setup
  • beer/wine only or full cocktails
  • signature drinks
  • disposable cups vs glassware
  • whether event staff or waitstaff are also assisting

Sometimes adding a second bartender actually helps the event feel calmer and more organized overall, especially for weddings and larger private parties requiring additional event staffing.
